We were soooo ready to get rid of these eye patches! We patched Liza's left eye for weeks and weeks prior to surgery for 2 hours/day. Both her eyes were crossed, but the left was worse. Her doctor had us patch the right to strengthen the left so they would be equally crossed, if that makes sense. The left continued to be the worse one after several weeks of patching, so her surgeon decided it was time to go ahead and have the surgery because time is of the essence in this case. The earlier you can have them corrected, the better chance they stay that way.
She had surgery July 1st, the day she turned 8 months at Batson. Of course Joey and I were so nervous. We were nervous about anesthesia, and we were nervous that they would not be straight. It was an early morning, a long wait, and a pitiful situation when she was in recovery. She seemed to be hurting pretty bad.
But after some pain meds, and lots of zzzzz's, she woke up with these beautiful, strait, dark brown eyes! She looked like a different baby. They were puffy and red for a couple days but recovery was a breeze. Babies are tough.

It was crazy the things she started doing from that point. She immediately started using her hands more and became more curious. My mom and dad came over that night and she just stared and stared at them while smiling like she had never seen them that clearly before. It was the sweetest thing! I feel like this was a big turning point for her.
Big sisters were lucky enough to go to the MS Childrens Museum after one of her post-op visits.

My Gals
Her doctor did tell us that there is about a 20% chance she will have to have the surgery again at some point. Since her eyes are a complication from the bleed, her chances of having to have it again are greater. We will pray that does not happen, and for now we are enjoying these beautiful eyes of hers. She is my first brown eyed baby =)
